The New Nations Guide to Harrison


Lesson 2: The Government Positions


In Harrison, the Constitution ordains 8 government positions and the ability to create many more. Here are the electable positions, their responsibilities, and the length of their terms. (Role-play time explained in a later lesson)

Any officer that manages a Department (Secretaries and Attorney General) can appoint a single Deputy to assist in managing affairs as well as appointing Department officers for other work.

The President
Summary: Oversees the Administration elected by the People and ensures efficiency.
Responsiblities:
According to the Constitution:

  • "ensur[ing] the livelihood of the Region"
  • "ensur[ing] the enforcement of the Region's legislature"
  • "tend[ing] to issues that concern the people"
  • "ensur[ing] the efficiency of the elected cabinet"

Term: 4 Years


WA Delegate
Summary: Assists the President in managing the Administration, but focuses on World Assembly issues.
Responsiblities:
According to the Constitution:

  • "represent[ing] the Region in the World Assembly"
  • "ensur[ing] the enforcement of the Region's legislature"
  • "same responsibilities as the President"

Term: No Specified Term Length


Attorney General
Summary: Pursues all violations to Harrisonian Law as well as oversees all Court Cases (Dep. of Justice).
Responsiblities:
According to the Constitution:

  • "responsible for maintaining the laws and statutes established"
  • "head[ing] the Department of Justice"
  • "represent[ing] the prosecution of any case brought forth by the Government"

Term: 6 Years


Secretary of Elections
Summary: Runs all elections and oversees the transition of power between terms.
Responsiblities:
According to the Constitution:

  • "responsible for the completion of all election cycles"
  • "ensur[ing] the legitimacy, fairness, and proper etiquette of all elections"

Term: 5 Years (this is so that the Secretary isn't usually elected in the same year as other positions)


Secretary of Foreign Affairs
Summary: A universal ambassador acting on behalf of Harrison, ensuring diplomacy.
Responsiblities:
According to the Constitution:

  • "responsible for interregional relations"
  • "ensur[ing] the diplomacy of the Region"

Term: 4 Years (this is so that the Secretary isn't usually elected in the same year as other positions)


Secretary of Recruitment
Summary: Grows the Region to sustain a quality role-play environment.
Responsiblities:
According to the Constitution:

  • "responsible for growing Harrison's community, as well as helping new nations who enter our region establish themselves"
  • "ensur[ing] the growth of our region"

Term: 4 Years (this is so that the Secretary isn't usually elected in the same year as other positions)


Senators (2)
Summary: Puts Proposed Statutes to vote and provides recommendations for amendments if the Proposal doesn't pass.
Responsiblities:
According to the Constitution:

  • "hold the power to put a proposal up to vote (via "Poll") as well as the President and WA Delegate"
  • "representing all nations equally"

Term: 4 Years (this is so that the Secretary isn't usually elected in the same year as other positions)
Note: Unlike other Regional Senators, Harrisonian Senators vote with citizens as well.
